Story lead: Getting More Out of Your Campus Fire Alarm Systems: Campus Mass Notification
Synopsis: With the threat of large-scale emergency incidents looming over U.S. college campuses and other public facilities, some are turning to their fire alarms to function not only as detection systems but as mass notification tools. This session – during the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) World Safety Conference & Exposition® – will explore technologies that use voice communication systems to send emergency messages to a single building or to all buildings on campus.
Interview: Chad R. Barnes, C&S Engineers, Inc., Syracuse, NY
Where: Press room (Reef F), Mandalay Bay Convention Center, 3950 Las Vegas Boulevard South, Las Vegas
When: 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., Monday, June 2
Build on the story: Building a Security Program from the Ground Up – Led by Robert Wetherell, Pearson Education, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 3. Today’s facility managers are often delegated responsibilities for physical security. Unfortunately, physical security is not generally a core competency for those delegated these responsibilities.
